What types of projectors are available?

We offer two types of projectors - the LCD projector and those incorporating SXRD technology (the latter unique to Sony).

What's an LCD projector?

The LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) variety work on the same principle as traditional projectors in that they shine a light through a filter to create an image - in this case they use LCDs as the filters. The result: enhanced clarity and colour reproduction.

What is SXRD technology?

Sony has a range of projectors that use SXRD micro-display panels to deliver amazing contrast ratios. You'll also enjoy full HD images and the option to watch 3D content.

So I can watch 3D at home using a projector?

Yes, Big Brown Box offers a selection of projectors which allow you to watch cinema style 3D vision - possibly the most amazingly immersive home theatre experience possible.

You will need to wear Active Shutter Glasses to watch 3D content - select projectors come with these included.

How easy is it to install a projector?

With a little planning and forethought, installation should be relatively easy.

You'll have made sure the room you are installing in can be properly darkened, that your projector is bright enough for the size of your space, and there is enough space for you to get the correct projecting (or "throwing") distance. The spec sheets that come with the projectors will tell you the optimum throwing distance for your screen size.

From there, the other crucial issue is to make sure your projector is centered according to the screen - it's important for proper alignment. However, with the horizontal and vertical lens shift on our projectors, you have a certain leeway to ensure the positioning of the projector is perfect.

If your plan is to mount the projector from the ceiling, you may need a little help - but you should soon be enjoying your favourite movie on your own private big screen.
