Established in Korea in 1958, LG Electronics traces its roots back to two distinct companies: Luk Hai (which changed its name to "Lucky" in the 1970's) which contributes the L in the company's name, and Goldstar, which contributes the G - and also contributed the first Korean-made radio. In 1995, Lucky Goldstar changed its name to LG, which is what the world knows it as today.
