How are LEDs different from LCDs ... and are they worth the extra price?

Technically speaking, an LED TV is also an LCD. As with LCDs, LEDs have a liquid crystal display - however, they use a backlighting system based on light emitting diodes (hence " LED") rather than fluorescent type lights used by conventional LCDs.

The result is a big improvement in contrast and brightness (perfect for brightly lit environments), not to mention a saving of up to 40% on power consumption.

LED technology is also smaller in size, so the TVs are more slim-lined. This makes them more easily wall-mounted.

What's the difference between High Definition and Full High Definition 1080p?

High definition offers a greatly enhanced image and sound quality compared to standard definition.

Full High Definition LEDs provide a picture resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels using the progressive scan method (hence the "p" in 1080p). Full HD is the only way to enjoy all the clarity and vibrancy from high definition game consoles and Blu-Ray discs - and the LED will deliver in spades with a generally lower rate of energy consumption than Plasmas and LCDs

High Definition televisions will downscale 1080p input to fit the slightly inferior resolution they offer (often 1366 x 768). However, it's still a much higher resolution than a standard TV.
